The schism between the warrior-focused Mawkin and the scholarly Thoha occurred eons ago, long before they discovered the Metroids on SR388. Upon settling SR388, the two factions remained distinct; when conflict eventually arose, it resulted in the Mawkin massacring the Thoha on SR388, not simply driving them away. However, the Thoha on Zebes were already established there before the massacre—they were a separate group that had left SR388 earlier, not refugees fleeing the attack. Raven Beak emerged as the supreme leader of this militant group, embodying their belief that weakness must be purged from the lineage. He views Samus Aran not merely as an enemy, but as a symbol of the Thoha's influence—a child raised by those he considers obsolete and weak. The Mawkin's legacy is one of betrayal and ambition; ZDR was their homeworld, not an invasion target, and they encountered the X Parasite there before the events of Metroid Fusion, not after.
