The Chozo were an advanced avian species known for their technological prowess and spiritual depth before their civilization declined due to multiple factors, including the departure of many Chozo from the galaxy and the X Parasite outbreak that wiped out the Thoha tribe on SR388. Their legacy did not end with their physical defeat; instead, it was encoded into the genome of Samus Aran, a human child they adopted after her parents perished on K-2L. This genetic integration allowed her to wield power far beyond normal humans, effectively keeping the Chozo spirit alive through her actions. On ZDR, a hidden branch of history emerged involving the Mawkin tribe, who had been separated from the main Chozo lineage long ago. Unlike the more peaceful factions that raised Samus, the Mawkin were aggressive and militaristic. Raven Beak, their leader, ordered the quarantine and subsequent massacre of infected Mawkin after the X were brought to ZDR during an expedition to SR388—the X were already present on ZDR, not deliberately released by Raven Beak. Raven Beak was present on ZDR throughout the outbreak and personally led the purge of infected Mawkin, then sealed himself in Itorash. He later returned to actively orchestrate the events of Metroid Dread, manipulating biological remnants to force a resurrection of Chozo dominance through hybridized power, viewing Samus as the ultimate vessel for this new order.
