Lore & Background

Gandrayda's story in Corruption centers on her infection and subsequent corruption. After the battle on Norion, where a Leviathan Seed threatened to collide with the planet, she fell into a coma alongside Rundas and Ghor. Upon awakening aboard the GFS Olympus one month later, it is revealed that Dark Samus had corrupted all four hunters with Phazon. The Galactic Federation equipped them with Phazon Enhancement Devices (PEDs) to harness this energy, but Gandrayda went missing during her mission to investigate planets embedded with Leviathan Seeds. She resurfaces as a hostile adversary on the planets Bryyo and Elysia, where she now serves Dark Samus's cause. Her transformation is part of a larger plot by the Space Pirates and Dark Samus to corrupt the universe, having already eliminated a third of their own forces while indoctrinating the rest into servants.

In Their Own Story

The mission to Norion marked Gandrayda's last moment as an ally. Fleet Admiral Castor Dane had gathered her, Rundas, Ghor, and Samus to discuss the Aurora Units when Space Pirates led by Ridley attacked. While attempting to activate defense systems against an incoming Leviathan Seed, Dark Samus ambushed them with a Phazon Beam, leaving Gandrayda severely wounded and unconscious. A month later, she reappears not as a friend but as a corrupted enemy on Bryyo and Elysia. She actively resists Samus Aran, who has been sent to locate her missing comrades. In these encounters, Gandrayda fights as one of the Phazon-corrupted monstrosities that Samus must defeat to stop the spread of corruption. Her fate is sealed when Samus eventually reaches the Space Pirate homeworld and later Phaaze, where the combined forces of the Federation and Samus dismantle the Phazon threat.

Reader's Guide

Players encounter Gandrayda as a corrupted bounty hunter on the planets Bryyo and Elysia after she goes missing during her mission to investigate Leviathan Seeds. She acts as a significant obstacle in these regions, utilizing her corruption to fight against Samus Aran. To progress, players must defeat her alongside other corrupted hunters like Rundas and Ghor. The game introduces mechanics such as Hypermode, which allows Samus to use powerful attacks at the cost of energy, though this risks entering Corrupt Hypermode if a Phazon Grenade hits or the gauge fills completely. Gandrayda's defeat is necessary to clear these planets of their corruption and prevent further spread of the Phazon mutagen.
