SA-X
A perfect replica of Samus Aran wielding her full arsenal while she remains defenseless.
The SA-X is the main antagonist of the 2002 video game Metroid Fusion. It originated as an X parasite that infected both Samus Aran and her Power Suit during a mission on SR388. After Samus was cured using Metroid DNA, which left her weakened, the remaining parasite in her suit transformed into this replica. The SA-X mimics Samus's movements exactly but is equipped with all of her most powerful weapons from Super Metroid. Throughout the game, it relentlessly pursues a defenseless Samus across the BSL Space Station, creating intense chase sequences where she must hide to survive until she can fight back.

Lore & Background
The SA-X developed from an X parasite that first infected Samus and her suit on a Galactic Federation mission to SR388. While the biological Samus was nearly killed, she survived by receiving Metroid DNA injections, which left most of her Power Suit surgically removed and her abilities severely limited. The X parasite residing in the discarded suit components eventually replicated Samus's appearance and regained the full arsenal she wielded in Super Metroid. This entity, known as the SA-X, possesses all of Samus's weapons but lacks her moral constraints. It stalks Samus throughout the BSL Space Station, where she learns the Galactic Federation intended to weaponize these parasites. The SA-X is designed to mimic Samus's actions precisely, a concept creator Yoshio Sakamoto identified as deeply unsettling.
In Their Own Story
Samus encounters the SA-X multiple times on the BSL Space Station, forced to avoid it due to her vulnerability against its ice weapons. She discovers there are actually multiple SA-X entities and that the Federation planned to use them as weapons, prompting her decision to destroy the station. During a final confrontation, Samus battles the SA-X through several forms before defeating it, causing it to flee. As she sets the station to collide with SR388, an Omega Metroid attacks her ship. The SA-X intervenes and destroys the Omega Metroid but is defeated in the process. Samus absorbs the remains of the SA-X to defeat the remaining threat, then escapes as the space station crashes into the planet, destroying both the facility and the parasite.
Reader's Guide
The SA-X serves as the primary obstacle in Metroid Fusion, acting as an invulnerable stalker for most of the game. Players must utilize stealth and evasion to survive encounters until they acquire specific upgrades. The SA-X hunts Samus through vertical shafts and corridors, often appearing unexpectedly to create high-tension moments. While initially unbeatable, the creature eventually enters battle forms that can be damaged. Its final defeat allows Samus to absorb it, which is necessary to eliminate the Omega Metroid threat before escaping the exploding station.
