Unlike traditional enemies that can be reasoned with or predicted, X-infected targets retain their tactical knowledge and combat skills while gaining a hive-mind resilience. Only extreme cold temperatures or exposure to Metroid blood can permanently neutralize their regenerative capabilities.

In Their Own Story

The containment vial shattered on the floor of Sector Zero, releasing a drop of crimson fluid that hit the metal grating with a wet hiss. Within seconds, the red liquid began to crawl across the surface, seeking heat signatures. A security camera flickered as the biomass surged upward, coalescing into the shape of a fallen guard. The uniform was perfect, down to the serial number on the badge, but the eyes glowed with a predatory hunger that no human possessed.

Reader's Guide

The X Parasites originated as microscopic organisms native to the planet SR388, where they evolved into a planetary hazard capable of consuming and replicating any biological life form. In Metroid Prime, their presence necessitates strict quarantine protocols on the planet, serving as the underlying reason for the existence of the Metroids. During the events of Metroid Fusion, a Space Pirate lab accident releases them onto the BSL research station, leading to Samus Aran’s infection and subsequent transformation into the SA-X copy. Their role shifts between background environmental threats in Prime and primary antagonists in Fusion. They maintain a symbiotic yet predatory relationship with Metroids; while X consume life, Metroids are engineered specifically to feed on them, creating a biological check-and-balance system. The Space Pirates frequently attempt to weaponize the X for their own military campaigns, viewing their mimicry abilities as the ultimate soldier technology. Visually, they begin as glowing red or purple microscopic blobs in containment vials. However, upon absorbing DNA, they shift into solid forms that perfectly replicate their host, including armor and weaponry. This design evolution highlights their terrifying adaptability, turning allies and enemies alike into vectors for further infection without changing their fundamental biological nature.
